Promoting Literature: MWA Central Committee meeting and literary achievements

The 3rd conference of Myanmar Writers’ Association held its Central Committee meeting in Yangon, in conjunction with the Literary Award Presenting Ceremony on 2nd August.

Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn attended the event which was commenced with the screening of a video clip titled “To the Prosperity of Literature”. It was followed by a remark of the Union Minister, highlighting the exerted efforts of the authors who raise the prestige of the nation by winning Mekong Literary Awards.

Since 2014, Mekong Literary Awards is hosted annually by 6 Mekong Region Countries alternately and the winners are systematically chosen by the Writers’ Associations of the Mekong Region Countries.

During the meeting, Chief Minister U Soe Thein donated 3.5 million kyat cash assistance for the Central Committee and the award winners. Chairman of the Myanmar Writers’ Association U Ohn Maung (Myin Mu Maung Naing Moe) expressed words of appreciation.

Then, the awards were presented to the Mekong Literary Award Winners at 11th and 12th competitions, and the winners of Myanmar Writers’ Association’s 2nd Manuscript Competition. Author U Zaw Win Aung (Akyi KoKo- Katha) and author Daw Khin Thida Hlaing expressed words of gratitude on behalf of the award winners.

After a group photo session, the Union Minister and party made a tour to the photos of the winners displayed at the commemorative exhibition. Myanmar Writers’ Association held its 1st conference in 2012, the 2nd in 2016 and the 3rd in 2022.

Each conference is designated a four-year tenure, with a central committee meeting organized after two years into each tenure. As of May 22nd , 2024, the 3rd Conference has reached its two-year mark.
