Floods in Thabaung: Temporary closure of 144 schools in Thabaung Township

Twelve additional basic education schools in Thabaung Township, Ayeyawady Region, have been temporarily closed as of July 31st due to flooding caused by the surge of the Ngawun River.

This brings the total number of schools closed to 144. The closures began on July 22nd, with 21 schools affected initially. The number of closures increased over the following days, with 4 schools closing on July 23rd, 8 on July 24th, 4 on July 25th, 3 on July 26th, 51 on July 29th, and 31 on July 30th.

Despite the extensive impact on school operations, there has been no reported damage to school buildings. To mitigate the disruption, classes will be rescheduled and held on weekends.
