The landslides, triggered by pounding monsoon rains in Indian southern coastal state of Kerala have killed at least 47 people and dozens are still missing, with hundreds more feared trapped under mud and debris.

The landslides took place in the early morning on Tuesday, when people were asleep in their homes which were crushed by mud and uprooted trees. The State Health Minister said that the rescue operations are going on and rescuers are exploring everything possible to rescue the lives of the people.

The army and the air force was mobilized to help with the rescue efforts but local village leaders said that no one had been able to be evacuated due to the difficult weather conditions.
