A Call for Donations: Restoring Bagan's ancient lakes

The Department of Archaeology and National Museum, under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, is currently undertaking the renovation of 91 ancient lakes within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bagan, located in NyaungU Township of the Mandalay Region.

Among these ancient lakes, 22 have completed its restoration works with 7 under the process. The remaining entities will continue to go under restoration works, and donations are welcomed to support the excavation and restoration of these ancient lakes.

Donors are encouraged to contact the relevant officials from the Departments of Archaeology and National Museum in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay, and Bagan to contribute.

Additionally, donations can be conveniently made online. The ancient Bagan cultural zone was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 6 July 2019, following the unanimous approval by all 21 member states of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
