US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin meets his counterparts Minoru Kihara of Japan and South Korea's Shin Won-sik during a visit to Tokyo.

The three ministers signed an agreement to enhance trilateral ties after their meeting. Austin is set to join US Secretary of State Antony Blinken for "2+2" talks with their Japanese counterparts during the trip.

This month, Japan and the Philippines -- Blinken and Austin's next stop for a "2+2" -- signed a defence pact that will allow the deployment of troops on each other's territory.
