Study Tour: Efforts of ensuring sufficient consumption of edible oil

Officials from Myanmar Edible Oil Dealers’ Association made a study tour to Soy Bean plantations of Seed Division under the Department of Agriculture in Nay Pyi Taw on July 24th.

They observed the research plots of seven types of soy bean which have high yields and oil bearing rate. The study group also visited the pilot plantations of hybrid soybean of Department of Agricultural Research.

During the tour, Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Tin Htut stressed the importance of trilateral cooperation among the Department of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Research and Myanmar Edible Oil Dealers’ Association for sufficiency of edible oil, providing assistance for development of producing oil seeds on the farmers’ basis. He added that the initiative will be implemented in Nay Pyi Taw as a first step. The Deputy Minister also instructed to draft a plan for soybean seed production.
