The Nay Pyi Taw Forest Department held a work coordination meeting on greening and roadside tree planting in 13 districts of the tropical zone at Ingyin Hall of its Ministry on Tuesday.

The event was attended by Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U KhinMaung Yi and other concerned officials. Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister highlighted the plans to plant shady trees on both sides of the Meikhtila-Kyaukpadaung-Nyaung U and Kyaukpadaung-Chauk-Magway main roads. Currently, the Ministry is actively working with the relevant regional government and related departments to establish at least 2-acre plantations per village in 13 districts of the tropical zone. In the rainy season of 2024, it is targeted to plant 3,551 acres of wood and multi-purpose plantations in 809 villages, which cover more than 2.1 million trees in the Sagaing, Mandalay, and Magway Regions.

At present, 97% of the plan has already been completed. The Union Minister called on relevant departments, organizations, and local communities to cooperate in a bid to restore the greening of the tropical region. Following this, the Deputy Ministers, Region Ministers for Natural Resources, and departmental officials engaged in sector-wise discussions.

These discussions focused on obtaining land for plantation establishment, land ownership and use of selected areas, the works implementation and detailed plans for further actions. The ceremony concluded with a closing speech by the Union Minister.
