Medical Milestone: YGH successfully performs bone marrow transplant

On 18th of July, the Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win accompanied by the concerned officials met with the patients who received Bone Marrow Transplant at the Intenseive Care Unit under Hematology Department at the Yangon General Hospital and inquired about their health condition.

On 19th June, the Hb E disease (heterozygous) Multiple Myeloma patient Daw San Aye from Madae Kyun Village, Kyauk Phyu Township of Rakhine State underwent Autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplant. The patient is doing well and achieved Engraftment stage, an important milestone in her transplant recovery. She discharged from the hospital on 19th of July.

Likewise, Multiple Myeloma patient U Myint Aung from HteeSaung Village, Myinmu Township of Sagaing Region underwent bone marrow transplant on 26th June 2024 and achieved Engraftment stage.

The Ministry of Health has successfully carried out the very first bone marrow transplant, a historical milestone for Myanmar’s Medical sector,due to the support of the specialists and concerted efforts of the relevant individuals. From now on, the Multiple Myeloma patients in Myanmar can receive treatments within the nation without costing much and can attain the quality of life.
