Sweeping environmental reforms along the Yellow River in east China’s Shandong Province have uplifted the livelihoods of flood-plagued residents and sharply improved biodiversity.
Since China launched a series of reforms to promote ecological progress in 2015 aiming to solve serious environmental problems and build a beautiful China where humankind develops in harmony with nature, the Yellow River basin has seen tremendous changes.
From 2017 to 2021, the floodplain relocation project in Shandong Province resettled some 600,000 residents. New infrastructure including sewage treatment facilities have enabled residents to coexist harmoniously with the river.
