Tech billionaire Elon Musk's X platform is under scrutiny by the European Union for misleading users with its blue checkmarks for certified accounts and violating EU content regulations. Brussels' findings could potentially result in significant fines for the platform. Penalties under the Digital Services Act can be as much as 6% of the company’s global turnover.

EU Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier stated, "Account verification must not influence or manipulate users," emphasizing that "authenticity must be verifiable and comply with the Digital Services Regulation." The EU's investigation highlights concerns over the platform's adherence to transparency and user protection standards, as outlined in the Digital Services Act.
