UK to strengthen border security

The Home Secretary in the new Labour government of Sir Keir Starmer has announced plans to strengthen border security. Home Secretary has set out the first steps to establishing a new UK Border Security Command to tackle the people-smuggling gangs bringing migrants across the Channel in small boats.

Asked whether the Government would rule out ID cards to help control migration, she said: “make sure that we see the returns that we need to see in place as well and also to prevent boat crossings in the first place by tackling the dangerous criminal gangs.”
