Restoration work of ancient Hindu Temple in Laos

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is working on restoring the Wat Phou complex in Southern Laos, originally built as a Hindu Temple over 1,000 years ago.   Religious site of Khmer architecture built as a Hindu temple in the early 11th century.

Awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 2001, Wat Phou is a significant highlight of Southern Laos. The ASI prepared the first conservation report and project plan in 2005 and began restoration work in May 2007. The team, comprising various specialists, completed the first phase in 2017, with the second phase scheduled to continue until 2028.
