Clarification on Diarrhea Outbreak: Diarrhea situation in Yangon Region clarified

Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun, leader of the Information Team of the State Administration Council, has clarified the recent occurrence of diarrhea in some townships of the Yangon Region.

There have been 12 reported cases of diarrhea in the squatter ward of Dawbon Township in early July, with 9 individuals requiring hospitalization. Laboratory tests conducted revealed that one patient tested positive for the cholera virus. Following this detection, further laboratory tests were conducted on hospitalized diarrhea patients across various hospitals.

As of Saturday, a total of five cases of cholera virus have been detected: one at Victoria Hospital and four at Yangon People’s Hospital. Authorities have swiftly arranged early treatment for affected patients, with field medical services deployed in Dawbon Township to provide necessary medical assistance.

It is reported that, one casualty was reported due to complications from chronic AIDS disease. Efforts continue to manage and contain the outbreak, with authorities emphasizing ongoing medical support and public health measures in the affected areas.
