Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win received a delegation led by Regional Director of Asia Region for UNOPS Mr. Sanjay Mathur at the Union Minister office on Tuesday morning. During the meeting, they cordially exchanged matters on prevention and control of TB, HIV and Malaria diseases which is being used by Global Fund managed by the Ministry of Health and UNOPS, related to the fund used, funds oversights issues and future plans.

On the same day, Union Minister attended “a coordination meeting based on the results of the workshop on establishing the roles and responsibilities of the National Level food safety” at the office No.4 of Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw. At the meeting, Union Minister made an opening speech saying that the Ministry of Health is implementing the objectives of the National Food Law which is to ensure that the people can consume good quality and safety food. He said the Ministry of Health held a workshop in May this year to establish the roles and responsibilities on food safety.

During the workshop, about 10 sections include 37 points regarding the actions to be taken if the provisions of the National Food Law are violated, and future plans. In Myanmar National Center for Disease Control and Medical Training Center, both infectious diseases and food laboratory tests will be able to be done more than before, and the School Meal Program has been implementing led by the School Health Department under the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education.

Union Minister said the meeting will discuss in detail on 6 sectors including illegal food import control processes from the border, university restaurants and catering service processes, food safety procedures of restaurants along the highway and in parking lots, food safety on restaurants in hotels and motels, food safety procedures for selling meat of wild animals and insects in the market, food standards drafting and publishing procedures.

He urged attendees to discuss the roles and responsibilities of the national level on food safety policy. Next, the directors of the Department of Food and Drug Administration reported the results of previous workshop, future plans and topics to be discuss in the meeting. Then, the attendees discussed on reported matters and the reports and discussions were approved by the Union Minister.
