



Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi on Monday inspected the expanded mangrove forest reserve area in Kyauktan Township of Yangon Region.
After hearing report on mangrove forest reserves in Yangon Region, plans for expansion and mangrove planting, the Union Minister said that Myanmar has more than 1.1 million mangrove forest areas and it’s the seventh largest in the world and the third in Southeast Asia.
Conservation of natural mangroves and the establishment of mangrove plantations in the coastal areas are very important. He also highlighted benefits the mangrove forest brings. Also, the Union Minister called on concerned officials to conduct awareness programme among the locals regarding the importance of mangrove forest and its benefits.
