Agriculture Sector: Union Minister meets with cotton farmers and entrepreneurs

Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung on Sunday met with cotton farmers and entrepreneurs in Katin Village of Yamethin Township.

In this meeting, the Union Minister said it’s necessary to make efforts to make cotton trade according to the quality and to develop a cotton market that will generate long-term interests. He urged the farmers and entrepreneurs to cooperate in order to carry out the trading of cotton seeds in accordance with the existing seed law and to ensure the correct flow of seeds.

And, number of cotton plants to be grown in one acre of farmland, cotton production amount, effect of systematic irrigation and use of proper fertilizers on production amount and quality and such issues as agriculture management and the state economic promotion fund were explained.

Also, the farmers and entrepreneurs presented matters including the current cotton production amount, use of inputs and market condition. The Union Minister coordinated with concerned officials for the matters presented. And, the Union Minister inspected the smart farm to achieve target yield.

Also, the Union Minister visited the historic Katin Lake near the Katin Village which supplies water to over 2500-acre of farmland and inspected the condition for upgrade. In Pyawbwe Township, the Union Minister visited the historic Kyaukse Lake near Kyaukse Village which supplies water to over 3,900-acre of farmland and gave necessary instructions for maintenance.

Later the day, at the Yamethin District Department of Agriculture, the Union Minister met with cotton farmers and entrepreneurs and held talks on the current cotton production condition, market and experiences and called for cooperation among the farmers, entrepreneurs and the Department.
