The Environmental Conservation Committee held its fourth coordination meeting on Wednesday at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation in Nay Pyi Taw.

In this meeting, Chairman of the Committee Union Minister U Khin Maung Yi stressed that in carrying out multi-sector investment activities for the country, long-term development can only be achieved if development and environmental conservation are balanced.

Climate change and natural disasters are the main challenges in achieving sustainable development. For the implementation of environmental management activities, field inspections must be carried out with guidance.

As plastic waste causes marine pollution and harms the environment and health, all must work together to solve it with measures including marine litter survey and awareness programme.

The Union Minister also urged attendees to tackle the cross-border smog pollution in accordance with the work plans. And, discussions were made on matters including works by the Committee, environmental management in urban and rural areas, implementation of the decisions made in the previous meetings and plans.
