





Ceremonies to destroy the seized drugs, commemorating the 37th International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, took place at Awaiyar Hot Air Balloon Ground in Taunggyi and Htiphaung Village-tract on Wednesday.
Member of the State Administration Council Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae in his capacity as the Chairman of the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control attended the ceremony, together with Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung, state ministers, senior military officers, and concerned officials, representatives from Thai Drug Control Unit, social organizations and locals.
Over 456 billion kyats or more than 137 million US dollars worth various seized drugs from Shan and Kayah States were destroyed during the ceremonies. As part of the ceremony, winners of the commemorative competitions of Literature, Music, Photograph, Computer Poster, Painting, Cartoon, Poster and Computer Painting were awarded at the ceremony, held at the Taunggyi City Hall.
Similar ceremony also held in Mandalay, with the destroying of 41 different drugs and chemicals worth over 418 billion kyats or more than 125 million US dollars, which have been seized in Mandalay Region and upper and central Myanmar.
The ceremonies of destroying the seized drugs were held at 24 townships in six regions and states, with a total of 77 different types of drugs worth over 1,163 billion kyats or more than 349 million US dollars.
