China's population of Hainan gibbons, the world's rarest primate, has risen from 37 in 2022 to 42 this year.

Listed as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, Hainan gibbons are exclusive to the rainforests of Hainan province. Chinese conservationists have been actively preserving their habitats and monitoring their status.
