





The donation ceremony of library building and books and journals for the nationwide library development efforts was held at the KhineThazin Hall in Sittwe Township of Rakhine State in the morning on 7th June with the attendance of State Chief Minister U Htein Lin, Chief Justice of State High Court, State Ministers, departmental officials, members of State Library Foundation, Township elders, teachers, students, ward administrators, librarians, CSO representatives and invited guests.
First, the students from No (2) Basic Education High School of Sittwe opened the ceremony with the song of “Let’s go to the Knowledge Bank of Library” and Video Clip on “Variety of literature must be thriving” for the promotion of reading habit.
Next, the Chief Minister U Htein Lin clarified the Union Government’s efforts for the development of libraries and promotion of reading habit, the same efforts carried out during the tenure of the State Peace and Development Council Government starting from 2004, opening of universities and colleges offered the subjects of art, science, technology, computer, economics, agriculture and livestock breeding, medical by designating 24 Development Zones across the nation etc.
Then, the Chief Minister U Htein Lin donated 30 million Kyats for two library buildings including one donated by the Rakhine State Government and one collectively donated by the entrepreneurs in Sittwe Township and books and journals. Next, as an activity for the development of libraries and the promotion of reading habit, secretary of Rakhine State Library Foundation Writer Aung Kyi Moe (Thin Pone Tan) gave a literary talk with the topic of “benefits gained from reading”.
Consequently, Chief Minister and party cordially greeted the attendees, looked round the books, journals, knowledge dissemination wall bulletins and library activities displayed in the hall and presented memorable gifts to the students.Similarly, the attendee departmental personnel and students also viewed the books, journals, knowledge dissemination wall bulletins enthusiastically, it’s reported.
