Spotting mine laid on rail tract: Terrorist insurgents laid mine on rail tract

A on-duty staff member found a local hand-made mine buried in a plastic box on railway track between Thein Seik and Don Wun Mile post (122/14) on the Yangon-Mawlamyaing railway section at 12:30 p.m. on 4th of June and reported it to the relevant security forces.

The local authorities and local security forces arrived at the scene at 2:05 PM and cleared the mine. The Thein Seik and Don Wun railway section was able to open at 4:10 PM.Due to the incidence, the No (81) passenger up-train was under delay for 3 hours and 20 minutes.

Also, other trains had to stop at the relevant stations and wait for hours.As of February, 2021, the terrorist insurgents committed 206 times of laying mine and exploding in the area of railway tract and railway station on the whole Myanma Railway Tract network, 165 times of destroying train bridges and rail tracts by exploding with mine and arson attacks targeted railway stations and staff housing.

Although the government has set the goal of improving railways and infrastructure to make public travel and freight transportation convenient, smooth and speedy, it has been continuously planning and implementing projects to upgrade the rail transport system.

As terrorist insurgents committed the repeated acts of vandalism aimed at destroying state-owned train locomotives and coaches; railway tracts and bridges, causing damage to passengers and goods, delaying the Yangon-Mandalay railway upgrade project and insecure traveling of train passengers. It has been reported that the local people and the entire public are strongly condemning the repeated destructive acts.
