Strong winds have toppled part of a stage at an election campaign rally in northern Mexico on Wednesday. The local state governor said at least nine people have been confirmed dead, and 63 injured. The rally was part of the campaign for the country's June 2 presidential election.

The presidential candidate for a center-left party, Jorge Maynez, was reportedly among those on the stage, but escaped without injury. Another candidate has posted on social media that in solidarity with those affected, she will cancel her campaign rally in Monterrey scheduled for Thursday.
