Gitanas Nauseda takes lead in first round of presidential election

Lithuania voted on Sunday in a presidential election. Lithuania's outgoing president and candidate for re-election, Gitanas Nauseda led the first round of the Baltic state's presidential election.

Polls closed at 1700 GMT and the result was expected in the coming hours.A run-off on 26thMay will probably be needed with no candidate expected to win an overall majority.Turnout was more than 59 percent, the highest result since the 1997 presidential election.
