Wembanyama receives NBA Rookie of the Year award

French professional basketball player Victor Wembanyama received his NBA Rookie of the Year trophy on Saturday. He said the coveted award represented the progress he and his San Antonio Spurs teammates had made throughout the season.

Victor Wembanyama, Rookie of the year 2023-2024 said "I never really felt like the chase for the trophy was over because I had other things to think about. You know, I had the responsibility towards my team and the challenge of staying dominant and helpful for the team and also staying healthy. So I had many things out of my mind the whole season and to me it was, you know, bigger than that."

He was a unanimous selection, taking all 99 first-place votes, the first unanimous top rookie pick since Karl-Anthony Towns in 2016.
