Population and Housing Census: Meeting in Bago for collection plans

Chairman of the Central Census Commission Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing on Thursday held a meeting with concerned officials in Bago for the 2024 Population and Housing Census collection plans.

In the meeting, the Union Minister highlighted the importance of census for a country regarding development projects, budgets, healthcare, transport and many other sectors. It was in 2014 and it’s been 10 years since the last census of population and household contents was successfully conducted nationwide.

In order to a nationwide census in 2024, processes are based on the estimated population of more than (56) million and the estimated (13) million households in 2024. De Facto and Computer Assisted Personal Interviews-CAPI methods will be used.

Training courses will be given staring August, the Union Minister added. And, Chairman of the Bago Region Census Collection Supervision Committee Chief Minister U Myo Swe Win made explanation on formation of committees, preparations and plans.

Also, TV spots which will be broadcast for the 2024 Population and Housing Census collection were screened. And, Chairman of the Central Census Commission Union Minister U MyintKyaing handed over aid. It’s reported that the estimated population of Bago Region is more than 4.9 million and more than 1.2 million households.

On the same day, the Union Minister inspected the national registration card issuance processes and the Biographic/Biometric collection process for e-ID system at the Bago Township Staff Officer office and gave necessary instructions.
