Agricultural Development: Summer sesame cultivation and Agri Market Center

Plans are underway to cultivate summer sesame in 338.26 acres of systematic farmland in Thitseintpin village, under the Chaungmange irrigated unit of Lewe Township in Nay Pyi Taw.

On 7th of April, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung met with farmers and urged them to strive for promoting the yield of crops as the government has been implementing the systematic farmland by using large amount of budget aiming to develop the crop cultivation and promote the living standard of the farmers.

Upon the reports on systematic farmland project by officials, the Union Minister supplemented the necessaries. Then the Union Minister viewed the preparation for sesame cultivation and completion of systematic farmland project area.

In 2022-2023 fiscal year, over 2,700 acres  of summer saseme were cultivated in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area and plans have been made to cultivate over 8,000 acres during 2023-2024. The respective departments provides techniques and necessaries to increase per acre yield and meet the target yield.

After that, the Union Minister proceeded to the Agri Market Centre provided by Korea near Pokbathiri market. The Director General of the Department of Agriculture reported on the progress of project and future plans according to fiscal years.

In his response, the Union Minister instructed the needs to cooperate with relevant departments for the project and then inspected the Agri Market Centre and cold storages.

The Agri Market Centre has been implemented as 5-year project from 2018 to 2023, and construction works have already been completed. The installation of equipment will be carried out by the concerned departments through collaboration. Efforts are being made to complete the whole process of project during 2024.
