ASEAN Economic Community: Meeting held to implement AEC (2025)

Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr. Kan Zaw led the Meeting (1/2024) with the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2025 implementation work committees held at the Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw at 10 AM on Monday.

The meeting was attended the Deputy Ministers, permanent secretaries, Directors General and officials. In his remark, the Union Minister said that the meeting is held to share the discussions of the 30th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Retreat held in Luang Prabang on 8th and 9th of March, 2024 and to coordinate and discuss the activities to be carried out by the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) effectively.

Regarding the ASEAN regional economy, the regional economic situation in 2023 was better than the global economic growth rate, and it is expected to continue to improve in 2024. In order to improve the speed of regional economic growth, it is important to connect the local supply chain network with the global production network. He said that in order for the country to participate in other ASEAN countries in connecting the networks, the relevant work committees should cooperate as per the sector.

Moreover, the Union Minister said that Lao will implement by setting 14 Priorities Economic Deliverables – PEDs and AEC has laid down 113 Annual Priorities-Aps to be implemented this year. Next, the Director General of the Department of Foreign Economic Relations ASEAN high level economic officer clarified the discussions in 30th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Retreat and works to be implemented in 2024.

Then, the Chairmen of relevant work committees Deputy Ministers, permanent secretaries and secretaries of the committee who are the Directors General reported the work implementations. The Deputy Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations explained the status of implementing for drawing 2026-2030 ASEAN Economic Community Strategic Plan, coordination for effective implementation of future ASEAN works and the issues being carried out by the ASEAN Secretary General Office for the review of ASEAN Economic Committee 2025.After giving necessary guidelines by the Union Minister, the meeting was concluded.
