








World Water Day ceremony was held at Myanmar International Convention Center-II in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday, with the presence of Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, in his capacity as the Chairman of National Water Resource Committee.
In his speech, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of safe and clean water for health and environmental benefits, since water is the basic natural resource for survival of living beings as well as for livelihoods. He pointed out the decline of these natural water resources due to climate change and man-made disasters.
The Prime Minister said efforts are being made for efficient management of water resources by laying down water policies and laws. He stressed the importance of youth participation in Water Governance and implementation of scientific water management approach.
The Prime Minister called for the cooperation of all concerned persons for the sustainability of water resources through an effective management system.
During the ceremony, the winners of the World Water Day commemorative contests were awarded. In honor of the celebration, a video clip on World Water Day was screened, followed by a dramatic play performed by the staff from the Department of Water Resources and Improvement of River System.
After the ceremony, the Prime Minister and attendees toured the commemorative booths for World Water Day. The World Water Day celebration has been organized since 1993, and this year's theme for World Water Day is “Leveraging Water for Peace.”
