







Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi attended an opening ceremony of “Project Monitoring and Evaluation Workshop” under “The Project of CCC Program of Activities for Distribution of Improved Cook Stoves in Developing South and Southeast Asian Countries (Myanmar)” co-organized by the Dry Zone Greening Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation of Myanmar and the Climate Change Center (CCC) of the Republic of Korea, was held at Thingaha Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw in the morning on 20th March.
In his opening remark, the Union Minister U Khin Maung Yi said that the 70% of country’s population in Myanmar is the rural population and use the firewood and charcoal as major fuel for cooking. Annual firewood requirement is about 17 million tons. Higher need of firewood fuel is a main challenge in the implementation process for sustainability of forest resources, protection of remaining natural forests and combatting desertification.
The Dry Zone Greening Department is implementing to reduce the use of fuel wood, promoting utilization of fuelwood substitutes and protection of remaining natural forests since 1997.This project is implemented with the collaboration of Dry Zone Greening Department and Climate Change Center of the Republic of Korea to implement mitigation of carbon emission and small scale clean development in Sagaing, Mandalay and Magway Regions since 2018 with the 6 years of project term etc.
Next, the Union Minister viewed round the displays of research posters regarding with the project implementation, work implementation posters, agricultural waste materials which can be used as fuelwood substitutes and higher capacity cooking stoves and gave necessary instruction.
