Private schools in the Yangon Region have come under scrutiny for their registration process. This process encompasses Private Higher Education Institutes, Technical and Vocational Education Training Schools, as well as International Schools.
On Sunday, a team comprising officials from the Yangon Regional Government and the Regional Private Schools Supervisory Board visited STI Myanmar University in Hlaing Township and Chindwin Technological University in Lanmadaw Township. As of the 2023-24 academic year, there are a total of 842 private higher education institutes and international schools in the Yangon Region.
This scrutiny comes in light of the Private Education Law enacted on May 12, 2023, which mandates registration for international schools, higher education institutions, and technical and vocational training schools, in addition to private schools teaching with a local syllabus.
