Stability of Commodity Prices: Union Steering Committee holds meeting

Union Steering Committee on the stability of commodity prices held its meeting 1/2024 at the Ministry of Planning and Finance on Wednesday morning.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Planning and Finance U Win Shein in his capacity as Chairman of the Steering Committee highlighted the increasing rice prices in some regions and states according to the reports submitted regularly by region/state committees on commodity prices.

He said that rice, edible oil and other basic foodstuff are sold at reasonable prices at ministry offices, staff housings and universities using mobile market trucks and also the growers are selling their products directly at fair prices for the commodity price stabilization.

And, the ministry also emphasizes the importing of medicines and medical equipment to stabilize the prices of the essential commodities, he added. Then, the Deputy Prime Minister called on relevant committees, departments and organizations to make concerted efforts in implementing commodity price stabilization tasks.

Then, the Vice Chairman of the Committee clarified the tasks implemented on the decisions made in previous 2/2023 meeting and further work implementations to stabilize the commodity prices such as systematic distribution of reserve rice and edible oil. Then, the Region and State Chief Ministers made sector-wise discussions and the Deputy Minister provided necessary instructions.
