Mexico's Chichen Itza is getting a new museum

A new museum has opened at Chichen Itza, a Mayan ruin in southern Mexico registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The museum houses more than 500 items, including stone statues and furniture. About half the collection will be open to the public for the first time.

Exhibits include an engraved stone facade of a temple and tables.  A section of the ruins that was previously off-limits will now be open to the public. Visitors will be able to view a temple and the newly restored residence of a member of the Mayan elite.
