Natural Pozzolan Plant: MOE Union Minister oversees the production process

Union Minister for Electric Power U Nyan Tun visited the Natural Pozzolan Plant in Poppa on Friday.

During the visit, officials provided insights into the production process and distribution of natural pozzolan, emphasizing its utilization in hydropower projects. The Union Minister instructed the implementation of continuous maintenance works for equipment and outlined plans for enhancing production capacity. They then oversaw the production process, and addressed the needs of the staff, providing cash assistance and essential food items.

The plant has successfully produced over 560,000 tons of natural pozzolan, specifically for the construction of concrete dams. The benefits of using pozzolan include its ability to control the Alkali-Silica reaction induced by the heat of hydration.

Furthermore, the use of pozzolan can contribute to cost reduction and shortened project timelines. In Myanmar, the Ye Ywa and Upper Paung Laung Dams were constructed using pozzolan, mixed with cement.

The versatile application of natural pozzolan extends beyond dam construction, as it can be utilized in one-storey buildings (excluding steel structure designs), roads, brick walls, and water tanks. This presents a cost-effective solution for creating robust structures in various construction projects.
