A Work coordination meeting of the Water Resources Assessment Committee (1/2024) on current work implementations and further strategies of the committee was held at the Ministry of Transport and Communications on Friday with the attendance of the Member of the State Administration Council, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo.
The meeting was also attended by Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung, Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi, Union Minister for Science and Technonlogy Dr. Myo Thein Kyaw, Deputy Ministers for Transport and Communications and Electric Power and many other concerned officials.
Speakin on the occasion, the Union Minister stressed the vital role of water management in Myanmar as the country usually encounters the water resource issues due to its geography and weather condition despite being rich in water resources.
Therefore, the relevants ministries and organizations are urged to ensure the effective water utilization to promote the socioeconomic well-being of the people through systematic water irrigation, hydropower generation, water transportation and preventive measures on water-related natural disasters.
Based on the data collected by the Water Resources Assessment Committee, the relevant ministries, region/state governments and experts should make collaborative efforts for the water-related development activities to increase the interest of the nation, participating in the effort for the progress of United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
Then, the Union Minister heard reports on current work implementations, collected data and further implementations of the committee presented by the secretary of the Water Resources Assessment Committee.
