New French submarine inaugurated in Brazil

A new French submarine was inaugurated at the Itaguai naval base by the Brazilian navy, as part of the Franco-Brazilian strategic defense cooperation agreement signed in 2008. The submarine, equipped with heavy torpedoes and missiles, is over 70 meters long and weighs more than two tons. It is the second conventionally-powered submarine to be commissioned by the Brazilian Navy.
