

Insein Prison in Yangon Region released 2,479 prisoners on Thursday, according to the amnesty order to mark Independence Day. Prior to their release, officials offered words of admonishment. Among the released individuals were 18 foreigners, 2,162 men and 317 women including those served prison terms under Section 505(A).
Likewise, Mandalay Central Prison released 1,051 prisoners, in accordance with the amnesty granted by the Head of State. Among the released individuals were 862 men and 189 women, who had served various extents of their prison terms.
Officials offered words of admonishment and provided assistance, including travel costs, other necessities, and their wages. In total, 1,697 inmates from 5 prisons and 7 labor camps in Mandalay Region benefited from the Independence Day amnesty.
