Chinese electric vehicle giant that has overtaken Tesla on sales

US car maker Tesla has lost its crown for most sales of all-electric vehicles to Chinese firm BYD, which has capitalized on Beijing's strong government support for the burgeoning sector.

China's leading electric vehicle manufacturer BYD said on Tuesday it sold a record 526,000 fully electric cars in the final quarter of 2023.

The number outpaced Tesla in global electric-car sales, which shipped a record of some 485,000 vehicles.
