Population and Housing Census: Central Census Commission meeting held in Nay Pyi Taw

The Central Census Commissionheld its work coordination meeting for 2024 Nationwide Population and Housing Census at the Ministry of Immigration and Population in Nay Pyi Tawon Friday.

The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Commission, Union Minister U Myint Kyaing, members of the commission,Permanent Secretaries,Directors-General and concerned officials in person and chairpersons of the Region and State census supervisory committees via video conferencing.Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister said that progress has been seen in the census activities that are being implemented according to the decisions of previous meetings.

He added that the census committees have been formed in Nay Pyi Taw, Regions, States, Districts, Townships, wards and villages for the implementation of census enumeration and concerted efforts have to be made to form census committees in some remaining wards and villages.

Regarding the census questionnaire, 68 household and 18 group questionnaire have been used in the pilot census enumeration and the trial census has been successfully implemented in 100 enumeration plots from 20 selected townships in 2023 October under the supervision of the relevant census supervisory committees, The Union Minister stressed the need to carry out the census enumeration in a timely manner.

He reiterated to make preparations for administrative matters, security issues, appointing personnel for census collection, conducting training courses on census enumeration, sending equipment on time and educating the public for the nationwide population and housing census.

He also instructed to form cyber security team in order to properly store the collected data. The Union Minister called for collaborative efforts to obtain the accuracy of census statistics in order to formulate national policies and socio-economic projects and for the successful implementation of the census collection.

Then, Secretary-1 of the Central Census Commission and Deputy Minister for Immigration and Population U Htay Hlaing and Secretary-2 Deputy Minister Dr. Myo Thant reported on the current situation regarding the nationwide census collection and plans to be carried out to ensure the safety of census data respectively.

Then, the members and representatives of the Central Census Commission as well as the chairpersons of the Region and State census supervisory committees made sector-wise discussions for the successful enumeration of the census,formation of enumeration committee, opening more training courses and public awareness activities. Then, the Union Minister coordinated the needs upon the reports and concluded the meeting.
