Promoting Tourism: Tourism opportunities in Myanmar-Laos border areas

Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism, Dr. Thet Thet Khaing, along with officials, visited the Myanmar-Laos Friendship Bridge on December 25th. The purpose was to assess the potential for cross-border expeditions and the development of the tourism industry in the border areas of Shan State (East).

On the following day, the Union Minister and party explored the Wanpon International Port Terminal near Wanpon Model Village in Tachileik, examining possibilities for tourism development. They then proceeded to Mong Phong Village, where they visited the monastery of Mong Phong Sayadaw, and explored opportunities for pilgrim tourism development.

In Tachileik, the delegation met with officials from the Golden Triangle Paradise Hotel, inspecting the preparations to provide best services to visitors. They then took a river cruise along the Mekong River to explore the potential for implementing River Cruise Tours.

In the afternoon, the Union Minister met with departmental personnel, tour package management teams, and hoteliers, emphasizing the need for harmonious efforts to promote tour packages and foster the development of the tourism industry.

On the 27th, the Union Minister visited the Shwedagon Replica Pagoda in Tachileik, overseeing arrangements for the convenient visit of pilgrims. The delegation then proceeded to the No.1 Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, inspecting arrangements for the smooth process of visitor entry and exit for cross-border tourism.

The Union Minister concluded the visit with a stop at the Tachileik Branch of the Directorate of Tourism, instructing staff to excel in their work processes and language skills, contributing to the overall development of the region and state.
