President Xi Jinping urges China, EU to step up cooperation

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Beijing for the 24th China-EU Summit on Thursday.

President Xi told EU leaders that China and the bloc must work together to meet global challenges in his opening remarks. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership, Xi called for both sides to work together to sustain the momentum of growth in China-EU relations.  

President of the European Council Charles Michel also said the bloc was seeking a "stable and mutually beneficial" relationship with China.   The EU says it hopes the two-day summit between the bloc's leaders and Beijing's top brass will provide a chance to discuss areas of common interest such as climate change and health.
