Rice Offering: Ceremony at Shwe Saryan Pagoda in Thaton Township

Buddhist devotees in Thaton Township of Mon State held a rice offering ceremony at the Shwe Saryan Pagoda on Monday, the full moon day of Tazaungmon. Rice and other offertories were offered to 1,189 members of the Sangha and nuns from 347 monasteries and 85 nunneries.

The Tazaungdaing Festival marks the beginning of the Kathina season, during which monks are offered new robes and alms. Robe-weaving competitions are also held throughout the country. In many parts of Myanmar, hot air balloons lit with candles, are released to celebrate the full moon day.
