Myanmar Star Tortoises:1,000 star tortoises will be released to forest

About 1,000 of Myanmar star tortoises listed as a rare species from Shwe Set Taw Wildlife Sanctuary will be released to natural forest this year, according to an official of Department of Wildlife Conservation.

The Star Tortoises are an endemic species from tropical regions of Myanmar and Forest Department have cooperated with Wildlife Conservation Society to raise the turtle species till the adults and released them into the natural forest since year 2004.

At present, the Shwe Set Taw Sanctuary are protecting more than 2,000 of star tortoises from illegal trade and killed by other wild animals.
