Hamburg airport traffic halted over 'hostage situation'

The Hamburg airport remains closed on Sunday due to a suspected hostage situation. The incident began on Saturday evening, after an armed man breached a security barrier and made his way onto the tarmac in a vehicle. Authorities have confirmed that there are at least two occupants in the car, one of whom is his daughter a four-year old child.
Police have maintained communication with the driver in the Turkish language. In an official statement the police indicated that they believe the motive behind this situation stems from a domestic custody dispute. At least, 75 flights have been cancelled and almost 20 flights had to be redirected to other airports.
