Uruguay FM resigns over leaked calls on fugitive drug trafficker

On Saturday, Uruguay’s President Luis Lacalle Pou reshuffled his cabinet amid accusations that members of his government tried to obstruct an investigation into a passport issued to an alleged drug trafficker. The president accepted the resignation of the senior leadership of the foreign relations and interior ministries.
Uruguay's foreign minister resigned on Wednesday, after the release of recordings in which he allegedly seeked to cover up information involving Sebastian Marset who is an accused cocaine trafficker. Marset is wanted on drug charges in his native Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil and the United States.
