New underpass construction: Construction of new pedestrian underpass in Yangon

Aiming to provide smooth public transportation and reduce traffic jams, the construction of pedestrian underpass between the Western entrance of Shwe Dagon Pagoda and People’s Square will be undertaken with the implementation of the Roads and Bridges Department of Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC).
A stake-driving ceremony for the construction of pedestrian underpass was conducted on 26th October. According to the designated project, the underpass will be 23 feet wide and 461 feet and 9 inches long, including four exits, four escalators, and 2 lifts with a maximum capacity for 10 disabled passengers each at a time. The project period is set to complete within 14 months and upon completion, about 14,000 passengers per hour will enable to access the underpass.
