In Colombia's capital, thousands at the Bogota Planetarium cheer as they catch a glimpse of the annular solar eclipse; the moment the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth at its furthest point from our planet.
Cloudy weather partially obscured the "ring of fire" effect caused by the Moon not completely covering the Sun, but some caught a few seconds of it.
Looking at the sun through a camera lens, telescope, binoculars or any other optical device while wearing eclipse glasses or using a handheld solar viewer can cause serious eye injury as the concentrated solar rays will burn through the filter, according to NASA.
The eclipse was crossing into Mexico and Central America, then into South America through Colombia and northern Brazil before ending at sunset in the Atlantic Ocean.
