The Femern tunnel: Denmark’s largest infrastructure project

Denmark's largest infrastructure project and the world's longest underwater tunnel, the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel, commonly called Femern, will link Denmark to Germany. Its 18 kilometres will improve the transport corridor between central Europe and Scandinavia, says its head of communication, Morten Kramer Nielsen.
The construction work started in 2020 and is due to be done in 2029. Most of the production is manufactured on site and raw materials mostly arrive by sea, which led the constructor to build its own mini village with roads, factories and a harbour.
