Paying respects ceremony: Marking the World’s Teacher Day

Marking the World’s Teacher Day, the Thingangyun Education Degree College of Department of Teachers Education and Training under the Ministry of Education organized the 20th paying respects ceremony to the senior teachers on Wednesday.

The tradition aimed to preserve Myanmar fine traditional culture and customs by new generations in accord with 38-Mingalar blessings and to remember the gratitude of teachers. 

The International Labour Organization and UNESCO signed the recommendations for the standards of teachers on 5 October 1966 and that day was designated as World Teachers’ Day. The significantly commemorative day has been marked across the world since 1994. 

Dr. Nyein Thi Aung , Principal , Thingangyun Education Degree College said " Although we invited 97 senior teachers for paying respects, all can’t attend because of their health conditions. We also invited in-service teachers, staff and trainees who completed the training to attend the event. All senior teachers are very satisfied and we are also pleased together with them."

58 senior teachers who served in the Thingan Kyun Degree College including retired directors-general, deputy directors-general were paid respects at the ceremony.

Dr. Khin Myo Myint Kyu , Senior Teacher said " I value the teacher’s work. I am very happy meeting with in-service teachers and the student teachers or teachers to be. If possible, now, I’d like to teach the students but I don't get these opportunities anymore. I'm pleased to meet and give guidance to the student teachers at the event like this respect paying ceremony."

Dr. Khin Thuzar Saw , Senior Teacher said "  I’m very satisfied to see this kind of ceremony. Annually, our education degree college struggles a lot but it holds paying respects to senior teachers every year. I am very satisfied a lot to meet retired teachers."

The World Teachers Day is celebrated every October 5th and in Myanmar, the Ministry of Education has organized the World Teachers Day at the Yangon University Diamond Jubilee Hall since 2002.
