





Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation U Min Naung attended a Conference on Import and Export Food Safety Cooperation of the Belt and Road Initiative held in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, on September 15th.
The Governor of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region delivered the opening speech, and the Vice Minister of the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC) led the conference, which was attended by ministers and high-level officials from countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. Union Minister U Min Naung actively participated in the discussion on the topic "Promoting Agricultural Commodities Trade through Harmonization and Strengthening of Food Safety Standards among BRI Countries."
He emphasized the need for cooperative measures among BRI countries to apply new technologies in the trading process, ensure a smooth standardization process, and address administrative procedure obstacles. Following the conference, a Joint Statement was signed by BRI representatives, outlining the Terms of Reference for Institutional Cooperation in Import and Export Food Safety for the Countries of the Belt and Road Initiative (TOR).
Earlier in the day, officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation of Myanmar, and China's GACC discussed various matters, including negotiations for a draft agreement on requirements for disease control in plants and animals to promote trade in agricultural products.
They also discussed agreements related to the import of pineapple, soybeans, sweet potatoes, tapioca, paddy seeds, live animals, as well as market assessments for macadamia, corn flakes, and betel nuts, along with cooperation in trading agricultural products.
This was followed by the signing of an agreement on the requirements for disease control in plants to facilitate the import of natural and cultured marine products from Myanmar to China.
