Turkiye hails 'new era' in ties with historic rival Greece

The top diplomats of historic rivals Turkiye and Greece hailed a "new era" in relations and vowed to intensify dialogue in the coming months. It follows a rare meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on the margins of the NATO summit in Vilnius in July.

Greek Foreign Minister said his country was ready to back Turkiye's recently reaffirmed ambition to join the European Union.  Although their relations have been strained, Greece became one of the first countries to send a rescue team in the wake of a February earthquake that hit southeastern Turkiye. Turkish Foreign Minister thanked the Greek government and said Turkiye was "ready to help" Greece's weeks-long battle against wildfires.
